Quick Snapshots of My Life in Temasek Polytechnic!
I found a short paragraph while browsing Sheena Iyengar’s The Art of Choosing. I found it apt for this post!
We measure our lives using different markers: years, major events, achievements. We can also measure them by the choices we make, the sum total of which has brought us to wherever and whoever we are today. When we view life through this lens, it becomes clear that choice is an enormously powerful force, an essential determinant of how we live.
I would say that I entirely gave myself to opportunities that the school provided and made the best decisions for myself.
– committee member for PACEsetters, a student ambassador interest group
– committee member for TP NYAA, an interest group aimed to promote National Youth Achievement Award
– attended key leadership events such as SJI Leadership Series and Polytechnic forum
– went on various overseas trips such as Project Jumbo II (overseas community project) and Mt Rinjani (mountain expedition)
– did my first ever presentation/sharing to a group of Year 2 students about Problem-Based Learning.
… and many more!
I started out with low GPA of 3.3 during my first semester. Back in my mind, I did my calculations. If I really wanted to pursue a business degree, I really had to work very hard to achieve perfect GPAs for at least 1 year. I thought it wasn’t possible. Fast forward, I achieved perfect scores for the entire year 2, and almost perfect scores for year 3. God is amazing!
It wasn’t possible at all – if not for a few special people who worked tirelessly with me for our projects. And also, for the friends who were there for me to teach me certain concepts that I couldn’t answer. I had a blast during these 3 wonderful years.
Our Singapore system is that, as long as you’re willing to work hard, you will be rewarded handsomely.
