Secured Scholarship!

One week after attending the interview with Jumbo, I received a call from Jumbo HQ because I recognised the numbers on my phone. Without access to my phone, I missed the call.

Two emotions struck me immediately. Excitement and uncertainty. My heart rate increased. I personally felt that my performance during the interview was under my expectations. My physical condition was not good and there was anxiety meeting the senior HR director. Nonetheless, I placed my heart into the interview process and poured out myself to them sincerely. A few attempts to call back to Jumbo were unsuccessful.

I kept my faith and called back whenever I had the opportunity to do so. After a few calls, someone contacted back!

“Hi Kelvin! This is _____ from Jumbo HQ. We would like to inform that we’re pleased to offer you the SPRING-SME scholarship!”

When those words were uttered out to me…. my mind was stunned a bit, and time seemed slow down. I heard those words, one word by one word and it slowly registered into my mind. I broke out in a broad smile and became absolutely delighted over this piece of wonderful news!

I clenched my fist together, pushed my elbow down and exclaimed “YES!” The awesome feeling lingered on for the next hour and I couldn’t stop smiling to myself like a silly fool. That night, I must’ve slept with a smile.

I’ve finally achieved my goals of securing a NTU NBS placing and SPRING-SME Scholarship. The goal was hard fought.

From this experience, I’ve learnt to not look down on myself and always believe in the possibilities.

The award ceremony is happening on 17 July 2014 at Holiday Inn.

Tomorrow is the start of my duty as Assistant Duty Sergeant. I will stay-in for one entire week. A bit of stress, but hope that everyone goes well for me. There are bound to be mistakes on my part… I will take it as a learning journey.

After being a 3rd sergeant, there are more responsibilities were added to me and people will look up to me to perform my work well.
