Taking Stock….
It has been almost a month since commander’s course started.
From my unit SAFAC, there were a handful of us only. 6, to be exact. The cohort size was 42. It was a strange feeling. On the first day, force preparation was conducted to ensure we had the necessary equipments for the course. Our commanders were very strict on us and many of us failed their first test. But I could see things from their perspective. If our army knife is rusty, it may not work well when we need it. Over the course of next few days, we did many things to pass the next force preparation test. The importance of being prepared was ingrained in us.
By the third week, I became comfortable with everyone. I felt the commanders – being veterans – were very qualified and they lead by examples. I was pleasantly surprised when the commanders shared their past experiences and imparted useful leadership values to us. I am glad that I made the choice to attend this course. The food in camp was good too!
We have cleared two high-key events thus far. Moving to next week, it’ll be the 5th week and another high-key event.
On my investment front, I slowly watched as my favourite stock Penguin International moved from 14cts to 21cts. It was painful because I knew it was such a good stock yet I didn’t have money to pour into it. Where did my money go? I placed them all in an illiquid stock called Pollux Properties. The stock price remained unchanged. I may sound like a fool right now… and true, I doubt myself at times. Instead of trying to liquid it, I poured more money into it. I firmly believe in the value of the stock. Despite being a property stock in a declining market, there will be strong upside if my prediction of RTO happening to Pollux Properties comes true. I decided to be patient.
Moving on to my scholarship application to SPRING, the outcome was not very ideal. I chose to believe that God closed one door to open another for me. The scholarship opens two paths: to work for SPRING or to work for SME. I wanted the SPRING path, but I was assessed to be more suitable for SPRING-SME. I decided to keep an open mind.
1 panel interview later, 1 tea session later, 1 dialogue with assistant chief executive and director later…. more to come. Keeping my fingers crossed!
