[Part 1] Value Investing Summit 2018 – Building a League of Hidden Champions
Every year, I’ve always felt that Value Investing Summit was a fantastic event. This year is no different. The quality of speakers continue to amaze me. Their content is superb.
As I’ve told myself that I need to reflect more so as to give “context” to “content”. Something I picked up from Life by Design. I will write it from my perspective of their content.
Here were the speakers line-up for the event:
Sean Seah, Kee Koon Boon, Hermann Simon, Joshua Zhang, Zhou Gui Yin, Getty Goh, Francois Badelon, Makrand Appalwar, Vishal Khandelwal, Hemant Amin, Joyce Pang

Value Investing is…. a journey
Value Investing is…. a decision
Value Investing…. is family.
Forever.
The over-arching idea is to illustrate that when it comes to learning investing, it takes time to become better and that’s normal. You will start to meet obstacles around you, and you may feel lost. However, when you put things in perspective, every SINGLE day, we — as investors — are in fact learning and becoming wiser every day. So we should not discount that and we just have to know that value investing has no destination, ultimately, it is a journay forever of constant learning and improvement. Why did I say it has no destination? Does it mean when someone is financinally free, he stops investing altogether? I could hardly think of anyone like that.
Charlie Munger and Warren Buffett was rich beyond measurement, yet, each day, they are learning because they are passionate about it.
A decision? YES. Each day, we have enormous amount of time if we manage it correctly. Sean recounted the story of how he had to spend many days at the hospital occupying his son. At the hospital, there were many parents who asked him, “how are you able to spend so much time at the hospital?!” Of course, he did not say that he was already financially free. Yet, it dawned upon him that it was because he prepared for uncertainties many many years ago when he picked up value investing and has the necessary protection. He was able to live off his passive income to support his son in his recovery.
So, for everyone out there who took this uncertain, bold step to pick up investing, you are already making a positive difference in your own lives! Stick to it and you will not have any form of regrets.
A family? YES. Sean shared about the new intiative called ACE Guidebook. Also, he further elaborated that VIC has gone into several countries and the heartland groups are growing very strongly. The key message I took away was… you are never alone and there is a commuinty supporting each graduate of Value investing College.
Really a great way to kickoff Value Investing Summit 2018!
