Forging Ahead in 2011
This is the time of the year again! My birthday. 20 August.
Traditionally, as soon as the clock strikes twelve, the floodgate of birthday greetings in forms of text message and calls will rush in. In modern days, it’s a sad fact birthday(s) will no longer be being remembered because we rely on Facebook as a reminder. Hate to say, but greetings don’t feel real anymore.
It’s strangely intriguing that I no longer feel the tinge of happiness that precipitates from being a birthday boy. So much so, I would consider it a normal day. Nonetheless, it is a joyous occasion where my family would gather around me with love and warmth and sing a happy birthday song.
Aside from the usual’s such as cake cutting, treats, presents and feeling special, what is the translation of my birthday?
For the past year, it has been a beautiful journey for me. I had my fun under the sun and great relationships were forged. I leave behind now, indelible memories. Some are cheerful and bright, some sad and dark. With that, I suggest I am not that young anymore. In the coming years ahead, there will be a new world of responsibilities where once I could cast aside, where once I can delay. And there will be challenges.
If I tap onto my potential to the fullest, live my life to the greatest, and exercise my best, I would certainly not hold any regrets. It will be wonderful year of strength and joy. It will be amazing where rusty skills will be polished and forgotten dreams are revived. It will be a year that where I’ll remember as vintage and lingering as only the most priceless of wine can be.
Other than my own efforts, I can only say I am where I am because of the people around me.
Another point to consider; have I grown at all?
I’d like to think so. From picking a new sport (unicycling) to building my qualities, it seems to be more exciting things ahead as well.
There are certain dreams to chase, certain things to work, certain goals to achieve, more moments to celebrate, and more memories to be created.
Let’s go!
